This Week Google’s John Muller announced on Google+ that Google is removing authorship images and circle counts in the Google search results.
We’ve been doing lots of work to clean up the visual design of our search results, in particular creating a better mobile experience and a more consistent design across devices,” he wrote. “As a part of this, we’re simplifying the way authorship is shown in mobile and desktop search results, removing the profile photo and circle count.
Up until now if you are verified your authorship through your Google+ account, your author photos displayed with Google circle counts in Google search results. While usability and eye-tracking tests have shown that having an image appearing in the search results increases click-through rates.
Mark Traphagen is shocked and he also pointed out in Google+ the Google authorship does not going anywhere.
Personally, it’s very sad to see drop of author photos in Google search results.
Yesterday, Google has announced that Gmail save your all attachments to Google Drive from within your message and shown the new feature with a GIF image.
New feature is very convenient for Google Drive user – First, attachments are now visible as previews at the bottom of a message and secondly, Gmail user can instantly save an attachment to drive and accessible from all devices including smartphones and tablets. Gmail users on iOS and Android have already enjoying the attachment preview for quite some time, and but it’s added recently to the desktop.
Google says that the new feature will roll out over the next week.
Responsive website design is hot topic was in 2012 and continues in 2013 as well. The world is going mobile and Actively Media has also move to mobile responsive design in this month. Now the content automatically “snaps” according to the frame, regardless of screen size. Last month, I converted the site into WordPress CMS using Genesis framework powered by StudioPress.
My objective of responsive website is to provide a great user-experience across many devices and screen sizes. I don’t want to create separate website for mobile. Following are my few reasons why I go to mobile responsive website design instead of separate mobile website.
- Mobile Responsive Design is easier to maintain a single site (rather than put your POWER in the two separate desktop and mobile sites). Responsive design allows SEO teams to manage one version and one mobile SEO strategy more easily than managing two of each.
- With mobile responsive, there is NO require to setup server side redirects to get desktop and mobile users to the right site. Sometime it can be tricky and need expertise in server software configuration.
- Google has also officially recommended that mobile configuration design consider as the industry best practice. Google prefers because content that lives on one website and one URL is much easier for users to share, interact with and link to the content.
…a single URL for the content helps Google’s algorithms assign the indexing properties for the content.
Recently, Google mentioned the changes in rankings of mobile search results where Google inform about two of the most common mistakes and its solutions.
- Faulty Redirects
- Smartphone only errors (in this case some sites deliver the content to desktop users but showing error page to smartphone users.).
Since Google is focusing responsive web design and it is the best option for your mobile SEO strategy, this would be my personal preference.

Google is now using DNS CNAME records to verify that you are the owner of your site or domain for Webmaster Tools. Google says new verification option will to those users who aren’t able to create DNS TXT records for their domains.
For using DNS CNAME record verification in Webmaster Tools, add your domain to your account and select your domain registrar option and then you will either see the instructions to set a CNAME record or see a link to the option CNAME record. Then click ‘verify’.
“When you click Verify, Google will check for the CNAME record and if everything works you will be added as a verified owner of the domain,” says Google software engineer Pooja Wagh. “Using this method automatically verifies you as the owner of all websites on this domain. For example, when you verify your ownership of example.com, you are automatically verified as an owner of www.example.com as well as subdomains such as blog.example.com.”
She also informed that webmaster can continue to use other verification methods like the HTML file, the meta tag or Google Analytics tag.
Warren Adelman has stepped down from his role as CEO of Go Daddy, the world’s largest provider of Web hosting, domain name registrations company. Warren Adelman will continue with Go Daddy as a special advisor for strategy and global policy.
“I am proud to have been part of a team that has built a terrific business. I’ve spent close to a decade with Go Daddy, and it has been an amazing and rewarding time in my life. As much as I have enjoyed my roles as CEO and formerly as President and Chief Operating Officer, I have reached a juncture in my life when I would like to spend more time with my family,” Adelman said in a release.
Adelman explained “I am committed to Go Daddy, one of the world’s most dynamic and innovative Internet brands. I am excited to continue with Go Daddy as a special adviser, a role that both allows me to continue to work with some great people and is also critical to our growth.”
Adelman will be replaced by Scott Wagner of KKR Capstone, a major Go Daddy investor.
“I look forward to working with the innovative and long-tenured management team at Go Daddy,” Wagner said. “We will keep enhancing the ways we enable and empower small businesses to grow their online presence.”

Marissa Mayer, who was employee number 20 at Google, will be Yahoo’s next president and chief executive officer. Today, she begins her new tenure at Yahoo as CEO.
Google’s first female engineer, Marissa Mayer resigned yesterday from Google after serving successful 13 years in many capacities. Mayer, who is currently 37 years old, has managed Google’s search product for years. She also led development of iGoogle, Google News, and Gmail. In 2010, she switched to Google Maps and other local products.
In a statement, Mayer says: “I am honored and delighted to lead Yahoo!, one of the internet’s premier destinations for more than 700 million users. I look forward to working with the Company’s dedicated employees to bring innovative products, content, and personalized experiences to users and advertisers all around the world.”
She takes over at a tumultuous time for a fading Web icon: She is the company’s fourth CEO in less than four years.
Google will be turning off is iGoogle, which allows users to personalize their Google homepage. Google announced they are shutting down a few services and products in near future including iGoogle which launched in 2005.
The product which will retire on November 1, 2013, giving users 16 months to adjust or export their data.
The other four services on Google’s spring cleaning shortlist include a Symbian search app, Google Talk Chatback (an embeddable Google Talk widget), Google Video, which long ago stopped taking new uploads, and Google Mini, part of Google’s enterprise search service.
Google’s Penguin update for fighting web spam was on 24th April 2012. It created a huge impact to many SEO companies and webmasters with respect to how they perform on-page and off-page search engine optimization moving forward. Ethical link building plays a very important role in off page activity as they relate to rankings. Any link building strategies can make or break a site in the search engines.
However, one of the most difficult and complex parts of search engine marketing is link building popularity. I emphasize this complex task because webmasters should have a good understanding of links and deep analysis of many linking factors including the anchor text. If you engage in link farms and paid link building strategies then you can easily find yourself booted out of a search engine. Rather, the search engines want links from authoritative sites, or links from sites that share the same focus as your site.
I’ve put together the most comprehensive list of link building strategies that can be helpful when building links for your website.
- Competitor Analysis – Start link building analysis of your competitor links and targeted keyword phrases. I recommend using Open Site Explorer, Link Diagnosis, Majestic SEO, Raven Tools and (last but not least) Link Research Tools. Not only you can find new linking opportunities within your industry, you can also monitor what your competitors are doing.
- Guest Posting – Guest posting helps you to build brand recognition and get you some good links. I would suggest that instead of focusing on writing 1-2 guest posts, put together a plan to write 20-50 guest posts with high quality content.
- Social Media/Business Profiles – Get involved on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ and share your content with similar industry audiences.
- Infographics– Do some research on the subject of info graphics and create content with great visualization and fresh content, so that many people can be exposed your work.
- Video Marketing – Publish videos on YouTube, Vimeo or other top video sites to promote and strategically rank your video content.
- Directory Listings – Submit your site in major directories e.g. Yahoo, ODP, BOTW etc. Whether you’re a global or local company your business must listed in local directories as well.
- Article Marketing – Do some research and submit your articles in only those sites where you can find real readership. E.g. if you have articles related to technology then you should check Techmeme leaderboard.
Prior to the Google Penguin update, anchor text was very critical to rankings. With this newest update, Google is looking for “natural” anchor text in content, so diversifying anchor text is key.
